Atria-Welcome

FrJonesWelcome to our parish of St. John Vianney in Bexleyheath. We are a Roman Catholic Church belonging to the Archdiocese of Southwark and part of the Bexley Deanery. We are a small friendly parish with a very distinctive flint church which is located at 21, Heathfield Road. You can find us just behind Megabowl. There is a sign to the church in The Broadway, just by The Golden Lion Pub and the Esso Petrol Station. Walk down Lion Road and Heathfield Road is the first turning on the left. You cannot miss us.

Calling all budding Mary Berrys
The St John Vianney SVP Conference would like you to bake some cakes big or small for our next Coffee Morning on the 21st May after the 10.30am mass. We will be selling them to raise money to send underprivileged children on a special St John Bosco camp run by the SVP. Please give your support by baking a cake and also attending the coffee morning.

Rail Links to London - under threat
As many of you will know there are proposals to make changes to the trains service along the Bexleyheath line. The proposal is to only run trains to Cannon Street. Services to Charing Cross / Waterloo and Victoria will no longer be served by any station between Dartford and Lewisham. This will have a major impact on many parishioners - not only those who work in London but also the elderly, infirm, and anyone who needs to travel to London hospitals for treatment. Furthermore, commuters and any other train users will have journey times significantly lengthened and with greater stress by having to change at Lewisham. This is undoubtedly going to have impacts on family life. Please show your support by asking the Government to consider the human impact of such drastic changes. You can lodge your objection through the Dept of Transport consultation site - BEFORE 23 May 2017   https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/future-of-south-eastern-rail-services (Page 23 shows the proposal to limit to Cannon Street).

*St Thomas More Catholic Primary School*
In March, our parish primary school underwent their Ofsted Inspection. It lasted two days and we are delighted that the outcome was Outstanding (as was the Inspection of Catholic Education which happened in 2016 at the school). Back in 2010 I wrote a letter to the parents of the school to hope that one day the school would be in the Premiership and it has happened! All areas were outstanding including, EYFS, Outcomes, Teaching and learning. We are very proud of all the children who attend and worked so very hard to make this happen. If you would like to read the report it will be on the school website www.stm.bexley.sch.uk. Congratulations to Mrs. Doran-Hannon and her team.
